Linda was my sister. The people who visit the site may be interested to know that sadly Bernie, her
husband, died about 6 months ago, and six months after Linda died. Cause of death not really known (by me)
This chapter for us now sadly closes. I think work has again started on what was to be Linda's dream home.
Philip Duerden (August 2011) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- A
colleague at the Borgata has just informed me that Linda Hicks formerly Linda Duerden (Polly) has died. I
don't have any information beyond that. Linda worked at 45 Park Lane and Clermont in the late 70s, Playboy AC
(Pit Boss)in the 80s, the Sands AC (Shift Mgr)in the 90s and most recently as a Shift Mgr at the Borgata. My last
contact with her was in 2007 as she was about to move to Texas where she and Bernie had just bought a retirement
home.
Monty Montgomery ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I
am devastated to hear this very sad news. Linda (Polly) was a very good friend of mine
from Playboy / Clermont days. The last time I was in touch with her was a couple of years ago when she was returning to the
UK for her father's funeral and was naturally very upset. After that her email address just stopped working but I have
often thought about her. If anyone knows more or has a contact address for Bernie,
I would be very grateful, Kind wishes,
Helen (ex Bunny Donna)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Liza... Linda was living in Texas with Bernie and was in the middle of building her dream
home, a replica of an English Mansion. She had a bout with breast cancer about 4 years earlier but this did not
contribute to her death. Apparently she had been in hospital for 8 days suffering from colitis. She had been released, then
last Monday went into hospital for a test and died. That's all I know. I spoke to Bernie but he's very confused about
how she died. Her dream home is still unfinished.
Linda's address was 434 Oak Harbor Drive, Arkansas Pass, TX
78336. Her phone # was 361-226-1132 although when I spoke to Bernie he was upset at all the calls he'd been receiving!!
Her e mail was avalonpicks@comcast.net but again I don't know if Bernie's going to check her messages. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Barbara, I am so sad to hear of Linda's
death. I always knew her by her bunny name, Polly, and was thrilled when she contacted me last year via the internet.
She told me that she was recovering from breast cancer. I then found her on facebook and saw that, in her photograph,
she still had incredibly long hair and I asked how the cancer treatment had affected her hair. She replied that her
hair was so long that she could sit on it and she still could as she had stuffed a cushion with it. She always
had a great sense of humour! When we worked at the Clermont she was always making things
in her breaks - knitting, macrame and once, a patchwork quilt. She stuffed all the squares (I think with concrete as
it was so heavy). I stayed with her once and we were both pinned to the bed under the weight of her quilt. She
said she still had it with her in New Mexico. I am devastated to hear that such a bright
spirit has been lost and will never forget her. Love, Elaine x
(ex bunny Elaine/Ruth) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Nina... Linda, my dearest friend, who I had just sent a get-well card to and a host of e-mails
hoping to cheer her up as she had had such an awful time in the hospital. Many times we would speak in the early hours
of the morning her time, as sadly she was not afforded peaceful sleep. But my friend lived life to the fullest since
she went to Texas, overcoming breast cancer made her even more determined to fulfill her dreams. The last twelve months
she impressed on me the immense value she placed on every day. The site for the home chosen, the layout of the pond and
garden, the suits of armour, the bar from the Hard Rock that had to be lifted in with a crane! and the many beautiful possessions
that were to go into this wonderful Tudor style home. She like myself adored animals, we both were never without a silent
friend, pictures and updates of her two recently rescued labradors were frequently posted to me. She asked me often to
consider moving back to the US and living close by her homes...she said she was worried about me, how profound, she was the
one who needed care and attention. Every day she played Mahjong with a group of Texan ladies she called true friends
and said she felt truly blessed knowing them. I'll never forget her smile, her hair! the eyes, that amazing sense
of humor, the calm nature, the loyalty, I am so very thankful for all the years that she was my friend. RIP Nina. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What a tragic loss.
I remember Polly's quirky sense of humour, the wry twinkle in her eye as she observed life's silliness. She was also
gentle, graceful and very intelligent. Sadly missed. Bob Ashwood -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was so saddened to hear of Polly’s passing.
She was so kind and friendly. She was the first to contact me when I first got onto your site. She was so thoughtful and caring. Many thanks and best regards, Nigle Barrow
